Columella lift: correcting a hanging columella

The columella is the strip of tissue between the nostrils. When it hangs low, too much of it shows from the side and the nose can look droopy. Raising it is a simple procedure of about 30 minutes, and daily life is possible right away.

Is your columella hanging?

Look at your profile. If the columella sits noticeably lower than the rims of the nostrils, so that a large part of it is visible and the nostrils look like a downward curve, it may be hanging. A columella lift raises it to bring the profile into balance.

Simple — but it must be measured

The amount to raise depends on your nostril rims, the angle between the nose and the upper lip and the shape of the tip. Raising it too far can make the nostrils look too visible from the front. Dr. Yu measures this at consultation and checks whether the columella or the nostril rims are the real cause.

Combining with other nose procedures

A columella lift is often planned together with alar reduction when the nose base is also wide, or as part of a wider rhinoplasty.

Will people notice I had something done?
